Types Of Pipes

Definition of Pipes...

As per the definition given in English dictionary, pipes are hollow tubes that are used to supply water, gas, oil and other fluid substances from one point to another without spilling or leaking any fluid in the process.

Different Types of pipes...

Although there are many kinds of pipes manufactured today to cater to the diverse needs of the market, but in broad terms, they primarily come under 2 main categories: Metal pipes and Plastic pipes. In Metal pipes, there are 2 types of pipes that are most common used. They include pipes made of Copper and steel pipe fittings made of galvanized steel.

In plastic pipes, there are 3 types of pipes most commonly used. They include pipes made from Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC pipes, pipes made from Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride or CPVC Pipes and pipes made from Cross-Linked Polyethylene or PEX Pipes. Other types of Plastic pipes include Grey Plastic Polybutylene or PB Pipes, which offer a cheap alternative for copper pipes, and High-Density Polybutylene or HDPE Pipes, which offer flexibility, high resistance to corrosion and a longer life span.

Different applications of pipes...

Pipes are used very extensively in plumbing and supply of tap water across millions of homes around the world. Similarly, Pipes also find usage in transportation of compressed natural gas or liquid fuel over long distances. Pipes are also used in Compressed air systems and in making of Pipe bombs as well. Pipes are also used in manufacturing plants for delivery of fluids from one point to another point in the production process. In construction business, pipes are used as casings for erecting concrete pilings used in construction of building's support structure. High-temperature or high-pressure manufacturing processes also use pipes quite extensively.Another sector that uses pipes in bulk is the petroleum sector, where pipes are used as casings for oil wells and also for Oil refinery equipment as well.

Benefits of using steel for pipes...

Though there are various kinds of pipes sold in market these days for different applications, but there are some industries that use galvanized steel pipes only because of their strength and anti-corrosive properties. Steel pipes are particularly useful in food processing industry, where movement of in-process food material is carried out primarily through these galvanized steel pipes. And because these pipes don't rust even after coming in contact with the water content in the food, they are the preferred choice of food processing companies in most cases. Similarly in the petroleum industry, movement of liquid and gaseous fuels becomes a lot safer and easier with the use of galvanized steel pipes in the process.

There are several benefits associated with the use of steel pipe fittings...

1. Steel pipes offer durability, and are much more durable than pipes made of PVC.
2. Steel pipes are rust-proof unlike many other metals and are also resistant to chemical reactions that can also cause corrosion.
3. Steel pipe fittings are easy to install than others because of their strength and durability.
4. Steel Pipes offer greater capacity because of their strength which allows safe movement of highly compressed fuels.
5. And most importantly, because steel pipe fittings don't rust, they are also very Environment friendly.
